Teeling Stout Cask Finish
Irish Whiskey 46% ABV
The distillery, which was opened in 2015, was the first new distillery to open in Dublin for 125 years, and is located in the golden triangle (the historic distilling district). Coincidentally, it's located a stone's throw from the site of a craft distillery that a member of the Teeling family established in 1782. In-between these dates the family also set up and sold Cooley and Kilbeggan distilleries.
Before Teeling produced their Stout Cask Finish, they provided ex Small Batch barrels to Galway Bay Brewery, so that they could make a whiskey cask finished stout (200 Fathoms Imperial Stout). Those barrels have now come back to Teeling, and they're maturing their Small Batch Blended Irish Whiskey in them. This comes off the back of aging the spirit in ex bourbon casks before a further 12 month maturation in a Central American rum cask.
Nose: A real intense experience, lots of vanilla & chocolate alongside caraway seeds, which are synonymous with rye.
Palate: Toffee &vanilla with a touch of citrus fruit
Finish: Malty & chocolate, like chocolate covered shreddies
